Step-by-step rites
📋
Before You Leave
Documents · health · baggage · mindset
  • Passport, Hajj visa, meningitis record — hard + digital copies
  • Bag tags: "Al Rajhi · Luxury 2 Muassim" + name + group number
  • Keep meds, valuables, extra clothes in carry-on — never checked bag
  • Make shopping list now — Madinah is best, Makkah is crowded & expensive
  • Read sister's advice link (below) — essential first-time perspective
Documentation
  • Passport (valid 6+ months past return date) + Hajj visa — hard copies AND digital (email + files + WhatsApp)
  • Green card if applicable — print a copy
  • Meningitis (ACWY) vaccination card — airport staff check on arrival in Madinah
  • Copies may be requested at the train to Makkah — security checks passport + Hajj visa
Carry-On Essentials (never in checked bag)
  • All prescription medication — 2-week supply minimum
  • Phone charger, power bank, travel adapter
  • Change of clothes (1–2 days) in case bag is delayed or lost
  • Passport, visa copies, emergency contacts
  • Ihram set + small prayer items
Bags
  • Label every bag clearly: "Al Rajhi · Luxury 2 Muassim" + your name + group number + US address
  • Use packing tape + sharpie for extra measure — luggage tags can fall off
  • Take photos of all bags before every leg (departure, Madinah→Makkah, Makkah→airport)
  • Consider colorful marker bag/shopping bag on top to identify on belt
Health & Medication
  • Tylenol, Advil, ORS, anti-diarrheal, throat lozenges, plasters, blister pads
  • Sunscreen SPF 50+, lip balm, eye drops, multivitamin, probiotic
  • Doctor's note for any controlled or unusual medication
Cash & Cards
  • Notify your bank of travel dates; bring two cards from different networks
  • Carry some Saudi Riyals on arrival — tips, water, small purchases
  • Madinah has a currency exchange right next to our hotel
  • Make shopping list now — Madinah is best; Makkah is crowded, higher prices
At the US Airport
  • Arrive 3.5–4 hours early — Hajj check-in lines are long
  • Check-in desks typically open 3–3.5 hours before departure
  • Photograph all bags before check-in — helps if luggage is delayed or lost
  • If you have a layover, look for other Al Rajhi / IAR group members and connect
  • Al Rajhi Neck ID: keep it visible — makes it easy for the Al Rajhi team to spot you on arrival in Madinah
If Your Luggage Is Lost
  • File a claim directly with the airline at the airport before leaving baggage area
  • Give the luggage tag/claim number to the Al Rajhi / Adam Travels team — they will follow up on your behalf
  • This is why carry-on has 1–2 days of clothing and all medications
Advice from a Sister Who Went Before
#1 takeaway: Your experience is unique to you — customized for you by Allah. Two people in the same flight and same hotel room can have completely different experiences.

Expect delays. Waiting for transport, stuck in traffic, blocked routes, long bathroom lines, delayed buses — this is all part of the experience. Keep dhikr on your tongue at all times.

Prepare as if traveling alone — know your hotel, Mina, Arafah, Muzdalifah, Jamarat, and Haram entrances. Carry your own cash. Even if with family, you never know when you might get separated.

Expect the unexpected. Plans will change. Have the mindset to solve problems calmly. Uber works in Madinah. WhatsApp group is always active. You are not alone.

Salah on the Plane
  • Dhuhr/Asr and Maghrib/Isha are easier — combine when the sun position is clear
  • Fajr is hardest — the moment you see a streak of light, you have ~10–20 min. Ask the flight crew or check the in-seat day/night map
  • Bathrooms on plane: lightest during mid-flight; busiest after food service and before salah time
  • Text family before boarding — some airports cut cell service once on the plane

May 18–21 · Maden Taiba Hotel · 3 nights
Day 1
May 18
Monday
1 Dhu al-Hijjah
✈ Arrive Madinah
Arrival at Madinah Airport · Check In
Hotel: Maden Taiba Hotel · 3 nights · Masjid Nabawi <600ft away
  • Arrive Madinah airport → customs → immunization check → claim bags
  • Meet Al Rajhi / Adam Travels team at arrivals booth
  • Bus/cab to Maden Taiba Hotel (~20–30 min) · tip driver 10–15 SAR
  • Proceed through customs — meningitis card checked in the hallway en route
  • Collect luggage → bag scan on belt → exit baggage claim → locate Al Rajhi / Adam Travels booth
  • Team arranges your bus or cab to hotel — bus to Maden Taiba ~20–30 min
  • Tip drivers and staff: 10–15 SAR / $3–5 · customary and appreciated
  • Hotel: room keys, WiFi, meal times (breakfast 6–10am, dinner 6–9:30pm)
  • Masjid Nabawi is <600ft from hotel entrance — walk out and you're there
  • Sister's section is closer to our hotel side — great location
  • Bindawood grocery + food courts are ground floor of surrounding buildings
Orientation: Masjid Nabawi is a big rectangle. Green Dome = Qibla direction. Our hotel is directly on the back side (Al-Baqi side). Walk out, cross through the alley between buildings — you're inside the compound. Currency exchange is right next to our hotel.
Worst-case — no meet & greet: Don't panic. Uber and cabs are right outside. You know the hotel name. WhatsApp group is active. Reach out to Rami on group chat. Get with others on the same flight and share a cab.

Iqamah is 5–15 min after Adhan in Madinah. During Hajj days in Makkah it is often immediately after — be in the masjid before Adhan.
Day 2
May 19
Tuesday
2 Dhu al-Hijjah
🕌 Madinah · Mazarat
Mazarat Sightseeing Tour
  • Five daily prayers at Masjid Nabawi
  • Mazarat tour after Asr (~4:30–8pm): Mount Uhud + Masjid Quba
  • Pray Maghrib at Masjid Quba — reward of Umrah (per hadith)
  • Five daily prayers at Masjid Nabawi (the Haram of Madinah)
  • Mazarat tour after Asr — meet in lobby by 4:15pm, depart ~4:30pm
  • Mount Uhud — visit the battlefield, Archer's Mountain; group will walk and discuss the story
  • Masjid Quba — pray 2 rak'ah here: reward equals one Umrah (Sahih hadith). Pray Maghrib here if timing allows
  • If time permits: Ethiq Well, Qiblatain, Almustathel Garden
  • Bus tip: 15 SAR/person for driver (group leader collects)
  • Optional hotel orientation walk after Isha if not done Day 1
At Uhud: Stay with the group — it's easy to wander off. Keep an eye on family members. Group gathers back at bus before heading to Quba. Allow extra time — it always takes longer than expected.
Second Mazarat option: If your flight arrives late (Monday evening or Tuesday), there will be a second tour offered Tuesday May 20 at 8am — both options available to accommodate different arrival times.
Day 3
May 20
Wednesday
3 Dhu al-Hijjah
🕌 Madinah · Rawdah & Workshop
Last Full Day · Rawdah + Umrah Workshop + Pack Luggage
  • Five daily prayers at Masjid Nabawi
  • Umrah workshop between Asr & Maghrib (~4:45–6pm)
  • Group Rawdah appointment — location via WhatsApp
  • Pack large suitcase for cargo truck tonight — NO meds/valuables in it
  • Five daily prayers at Masjid Nabawi
  • Umrah Workshop between Asr & Maghrib (~4:45–6pm) — location announced on WhatsApp
  • Group Rawdah appointment (tentative) — brothers and sisters have separate slots. Gather in lobby 1hr before; start walking 45min before your slot
  • Gathering spots: G37 (Sisters) · G38 (Brothers) at the masjid
  • Pack large suitcase for cargo truck — label clearly with name, phone, US address + "Al Rajhi Luxury 2 Muassim"
  • Place bags outside room door / against lobby wall at given time — bellman collects floor by floor (allow ~1 hour)
  • Do NOT pack: medication, valuables, passport, charger, ihram, or anything you need in next 48 hours
Rawdah — group vs individual: We have a group reservation. Once the group time is confirmed, please delete your individual Nusuk booking — holding both takes someone else's spot. Be on time: sisters' slot is very punctual. Late = missed.
Rawdah orientation: The area between the Prophet's ﷺ house and his minbar is Riyadh al-Jannah (Garden of Paradise). Brothers may also do the Salam gate (Gate 1) walk anytime — first row, walk all the way to the grille, say salaam on the Prophet ﷺ and companions, then exit. Sisters will be praying right next to the grave — a profound moment.
Thermostat tip: Set to 74–76°F. Big temperature swings between hotel and outside tire your body out — you need that energy for Hajj.

  • Individual option: go anytime on your own — no need to wait for group
Bus timing story: One year, a group leader saw a bus that wasn't theirs and everyone came down — then they were stuck in lobby for 6+ hours after checking out. We learned: come down only when the group leader confirms they see the right bus and calls you. Wait for that confirmation.
Umrah timing: Group Umrah starts ~10–11pm. With a group, plan for ~4 hours — you'll likely finish around 3am. Jumu'ah is next day (Friday). If you want a spot near the Kaaba for Jumu'ah, weigh that against rest needs.
Day 5
May 22
Friday
5 Dhu al-Hijjah
🕋 Makkah · Jumu'ah at Haram
Jumu'ah · Rest · Haram Time
  • Five prayers at Haram
  • Jumu'ah at 12:17pm — arrive after Fajr or by 7am for spot near Kaaba
  • Free day · breakfast & dinner at hotel

  • Jumu'ah at 12:17pm — to be near Kaaba: arrive after Fajr; to be inside the main structure: by 8–9am; expansion fills up by ~10am
  • Hotel musalla option: go down to the prayer floor in the hotel — window overlooks Haram wall and is considered part of the haram when rows extend. Valid option if arriving ~11–11:30am
  • Free day — no group activities planned
Pace yourself. You did Umrah last night and Hajj starts in 3 days. Rest, hydrate, and enjoy being close to the Kaaba. The blessing of just sitting and making du'a in the Haram is immeasurable.

  • All prayers: shortened, NOT combined
  • After Asr: camp orientation · talks in tents
  • Dinner at buffet · rest for Arafah tomorrow
  • Meet in lobby at given time with ihram on + Hajj backpack · intention made here or confirmed with Imam
  • Board bus to Mina — ~45 min due to traffic (could be 30 min)
  • Team leads you to Al Muassim camp · locate your tent, prayer space, coolers, buffet

  • Imam talks and discussions in the tents throughout the day
  • After Asr: orientation walk around camp to get familiar with the area
  • Dinner served at buffet area · Maghrib and Isha prayers at Mina
  • Rest — tomorrow is the most important day of Hajj
Mina tips: Limit food intake (especially before Eid). Avoid sugary drinks and juices. Stay hydrated — keep drinking even if it means more bathroom trips. Plan bathroom around salah times (busiest before/after prayer and after meals). Bring earplugs. Be mindful of heat — AC has limits outdoors.
Day 9
May 26
Tuesday
9 Dhu al-Hijjah
⛺ Hajj Day 2 · Arafah + Muzdalifah
Day of Arafah · Night at Muzdalifah
  • Fajr at Mina → Bus to Arafah (~20–30 min walk from drop-off to tent)
  • Khutbah → Dhuhr + Asr combined/shortened · du'a until Maghrib
  • Depart Maghrib → bus to Muzdalifah · Maghrib + Isha combined · collect 49 pebbles
  • Midnight group (~12:15am): women, elderly, mahram | Fajr group (~4:45am): all others
  • Fajr at Mina · breakfast at Mina or Arafah depending on announcement
  • Gather at designated spot outside camp · Bus to Arafah — stay together, follow group sign
  • Walk ~20–30 min from bus drop-off to assigned tent · identify bathrooms, buffet area
  • Rest until noon (Sunnah) · Khutbah of Arafah · Dhuhr + Asr combined & shortened
  • From Dhuhr until Maghrib: continuous du'a, dhikr, Qur'an, istighfar — this is the day
  • Lunch served at buffet — balance: don't starve, don't overeat
  • Depart at Maghrib (do NOT pray Maghrib at Arafah — pray it at Muzdalifah)
  • Get to the bus — delays are expected; queue could be 1–2+ hours. Stay with group, make dhikr, be patient
  • Arrive Muzdalifah: pray Maghrib + Isha combined & shortened · carpet provided by Al Rajhi · sleep under the sky
  • Collect 49 pebbles (or 70 if staying for 13th DH) — chickpea-sized
  • Two departure groups:
🌙 Midnight group (~12:15am): women, elderly, those with mahram — walk (~1h 30min) or bus to Mina, rest at camp until Fajr, then walk to Jamarat
🌅 Fajr group (~4:45am): singles and able-bodied — pray Fajr at Muzdalifah first, then walk or take bus to Mina
⚠ Use Arafah bathrooms before Maghrib departure. Muzdalifah is open public restrooms only — extremely long lines, less clean. Al Muassim camp may have some allocated space but it's still crowded. Plan accordingly.
Bus queue reality: Expect 1–2+ hours waiting for your bus from Arafah to Muzdalifah. All groups are heading the same direction at the same time. Stand with your group, keep dhikr going, look after each other. The wait itself is worship — don't waste it.
Day 10

  • Fajr group: Fajr at Muzdalifah → walk or bus to Mina → walk to Jamarat
  • Stone Jamrat al-Aqaba only — 7 pebbles, one at a time, say takbeer with each
  • Get Halq (shave) for men / Taqsir (trim) for women — barbers right near Jamarat in Mina
  • Wait for sacrifice email from Nusuk / adahi.org (~9am) — confirms qurbani is done

  • Bus to Hilton Suites (~45min–1hr) — go as early as possible, crowds grow by the hour

  • Marital relations now permitted after Tawaf al-Ifadah

  • Return to Mina by bus after Asr (announced on WhatsApp) · must be back before midnight
  • Night at Mina — dinner may be finished by time of late arrival
Eid day walk times (Al Muassim):

Camp → Jamarat (Al Muassim)~1h 15min–1h 30min
Camp → Jamarat & Back (full loop)~2h 45min–3h 5min
Walk: Jamarat → Hilton Suites~1h 30min
Camp → Jamarat → Hilton Suites~2h 45min–3h 5min
Tawaf al-Ifadah crowds peak between 8am–2pm on Eid. After Asr or after midnight is far less crowded — both are valid. Plan wisely. Note: buses from near Jamarat area go to Ajyad Station (near Clock Tower); you walk under the Clock Tower to reach the Haram.
No Eid prayer required for hujjaj — performing Hajj is the act of worship for this day. The 4 rites are: (1) stone Aqaba, (2) sacrifice, (3) halq/taqsir, (4) Tawaf al-Ifadah. After 3 of 4: exit partial ihram. After all 4: full exit including marital relations.
Day 11
May 28
Thursday

⛺ Hajj Day 4 · Tashreeq 1
Rami of All 3 Pillars · Tashreeq Day 1

  • Option: return to Makkah or stay in Mina overnight
  • Fajr & Dhuhr at Mina · breakfast & lunch at Mina (no meals at hotel today)
  • After Dhuhr: stone all 3 Jamarat in order — Sughra (7) → Wusta (7) → Aqaba (7) = 21 pebbles total
  • Make du'a after Sughra and Wusta — not after Aqaba
  • Must be done before Maghrib on 11th and 12th
  • After Jamarat: Option A — walk (~1h 30min) or take bus to Makkah, stay night at hotel
Option B — stay in Mina overnight

  • Must spend majority of night in Mina on nights of 10th and 11th DH
  • Talks and discussions continue at Mina · dinner served at Mina
Getting between Mina and Makkah: Buses pick up near Ajyad Station (behind Clock Tower). You can also take a shared cab — negotiate 20–25 SAR/person (6–8 per cab). Free public Hajj bus routes are listed online. Walking is ~1h 30min from Jamarat to Hilton Suites via the 80% covered tunnel route.
Majority of night rule: On the nights of 10th and 11th DH, you must spend the majority of the night in Mina. Calculate the midpoint between Maghrib and Fajr — being there past that midpoint satisfies the obligation. Coordinate with group leaders on bus timing.

⚠ Do not delay Tawaf al-Wada. 2–3 hours before Fajr is now crowded (people want Fajr near Kaaba). Latest viable window: right after Fajr. The later you leave it, the higher the risk you miss it entirely before checkout. Do it tonight or tomorrow after Fajr — no later.

Hajj Mabroor!
"Keep on doing Hajj and Umrah, for they eliminate poverty and sin just as the bellows eliminate impurities from iron, gold, and silver." — Tirmidhi

May Allah accept your Hajj and allow you to be His guest again soon. Ameen.
